- Complete instrument: All-in-one calorimeter of which flow sensor, temperature sensor pair, and calculator are not separable from each other
- Combined instrument: Flow sensor, temperature sensor pair, and calculator are separable from each other.
- Hybrid instrument: Parts such as flow sensor, temperature sensor pair, and calculator are separable from each other for testing. However, they are assembled after testing to become an all-in-one calorimeter.

- Flow sensor: The part that measures the volume and weight of heat media at the inlet and outlet of heat-exchange circuit or generates signals in mass flux function
- Temperature sensor pair: The part that measures the temperature of heat media at the inlet and outlet of the heat-exchange circuit
- Calculator: The part that calculates and displays the quantity of heat media in the pressure and temperature of the inlet and outlet of the heating system
- Calorie Conversion Factor (K-factor): Calorie Conversion factor that is the state function of heat media in the pressure and temperature of the inlet and outlet of the heating system
- Maximum Operating Temperature (θmax): The maximum temperature of heat media the meter operates without exceeding the maximum permissible error
- Maximum Temperature Difference (Δθmax): The maximum temperature difference the calorimeter can operate to the upper limit without exceeding the maximum permissible error
- Maximum Temperature Difference (Δθmin): The maximum temperature difference the calorimeter operates without exceeding the maximum permissible error
- Overload Flow Rate (Qs): Maximum amount of flow the meter can operate for a short period of time (less than 1hr./day or less than 200hrs./year) without exceeding the maximum permissible error
- Maximum Flow Rate (Qp): The maximum quantity of flow the meter operates continually without exceeding the maximum permissible error
