The contrast between TiCN cermet and Cemented Carbide:
(1)The high temperature hardness varies greatly.The cemented carbide comprise of Carbide（WC）and bonding（Co or Ni）in traditional concept. The harness of TiCN cermet is higher than that of WC,compared with cemented carbide, the TiCN cermet is of lower strength and tenacity, however,its strength fades slower with the rising temperature, which can perfect negate its low strength, so it is suitable for processing materials of good plastic property and low hardness.
(2)The TiCN cermet is of higher oxidation resistance. When processing, TiO2 resist film will generate as a result of the oxidation.The film will lubricate the workpiece, so TiCN cermet is of higher wear resistance. For cemented carbide, WC will be oxidated into lacunaris WO3 during processing, WC will react with steel and generate fragile( WFe) 6C when the temperature of blade tip reaches 800℃.All of these will be detrimental to wear resistance.
(3)The TiCN cermet is of higher crater wear resistance. For cemented carbide,crater wear occurs under 850～900℃, and for TiCN cermet, crater wear will not occur until the temperature reaches 1100～1200℃.
(4) The higher chemical stability of TiCN cermet prevents the binding with steel, which assures the minimum welding, the better precision and superior surface finish.
