Magnesium-Air fuel cell is made up of magnesium adode which is consumed, oxygen from air as a cathode, and salt water as electrolyte. Magnesium-Air fuel cells in North America and Japan industries have been expected high demand mainly in the military and emergency safety equipments due to high energy density, long-time continuous power delivery, indefinite shelf-life advantages. In spite of these advantages, there are limitations of applications due to some inconvenience of solid metals and plastic pack, less portable, not wearable, and not easy to use.
ElaChem has developed fuel cells battery pack using air cathode, lightweight polymer, and fabric-like magnesium anode. This flexible, slim, lightw eight fuel cells battery can be supplied by custom-order, suitable for the portable (Mg plate) and wearable (fibrous Mg) power sources, easy to use and refill (salt water, water, urine), low self-discharge rate, no charging required, safer than Li-ion battery, cheaper than other batteries, and expected in demand for military, disaster relief, marine rescue, outdoor applications.
