Melinjo is dioecious gymnosperm plant (has separated male and female reproduction organ), can reach height of 22 meters with conical trunk. This small three is native to Indonesia and "melinjo" is the common Indonesian name for the plant. Melinjo has been consumed for centuries by the Indonesian populationThe history of Melinjo can be traced back to the Kingdom of Yogyakarta and Banten, where the melinjo tree grows in abundance. In this area one can find a high concentration of melinjo trees and expectedly with the highest per capita consumption of melinjo. It may not be a coincidence that the population of Yogyakarta also has the longest life-expectancy in Indonesia, an average 10% higher than the rest of the population.
