Successfully entered fastidious German market thanks to “online and offline” omni-channel marketing support.

While trying to find buyers to attend the Korea Grand Sourcing Fair in 2015, information on the Hong King sourcing office of Conrad Electronic, headquartered in Germany, was obtained. At the time, the buyer did not attend the fair due to a scheduling conflict but since then, the sourcing representative of Conrad has maintained contact with the matching representative of tradeKorea to propose conferences and discuss products.

On January 20, 2016, the buyer requested information on domestic companies that manufacture camping goods such as burners and lanterns, and a list of 11 lantern manufacturers and seven burner manufacturers was prepared and delivered to the buyer. Among them, two companies, including Prism, were handpicked by the buyer who informed the representatives of domestic companies about the inquiry to start the matching process.

Founded in 1923 in Berlin, Germany, Conrad Electronic is a distributor of computer parts, electronic goods and tools, and runs offline stores throughout Europe including Germany. Selling about 450,000 different types of products in 210 countries via its online store, it is a big buyer in the electronic goods category.

During a small conference session held in October 2016, the tradeKorea matching representative asked the buyer about the progress of Prism and heard that communication had been difficult with Prism although the buyer’s German headquarters had asked multiple questions. As the buyer also requested to check out additional products themselves, the matching representative suggested the buyer to attend the Korea Grand Sourcing Fair to be held in December and set up a meeting with Prism.

At the Korea Grand Sourcing Fair, Prism showed a proactive attitude by, for example, proposing samples of its newest products on site and, after a number of sample tests, the buyer placed their first order of 500 products. Prism also attended an export conference at the Global Startup Conference (GSC) held on May 23, 2017, to present additional products that the buyer had requested.

Prism is currently conducting the second sample test on LED stands and other products and expects to receive additional orders. Prism thanked tradeKorea for the support it has provided in buyer matching support all the way to participation in conferences because it believes that the very fact that it has succeeded in doing business with a big German buyer with strict standards and demands is living proof to the excellence of its products.
