1. Used as intermediate in organic synthesis.
2. It is an active
agent used for skin whitening and lightening. Beside anti-inflammatory,
cough-suppressant and diuretic functions, it can effectively inhibit tyrosinase
activity and melanin production. It directly bonds with tyrosinase, which
accelerates melanin decomposition and excretion, and thus reduces pigmentation,
lightens skin and freckles. Moreover, it causes no such side effects as
toxicity, irritation or sensitization to melanocytes. These merits make it the
most popular, most effective and safest whitening material in the 21st century,
also an ideal skin lightening activator.
