Application
MBE system is the deposition of one or more pure materials onto a single crystal wafer, one layer of atoms at a time, under ultra-high vacuum, forming a perfect crystal. The term "beam" simply means that evaporated atoms do not meet each other or any other gases until they reach the wafer.
During operation, RHEED is often used for monitoring the growth of the crystal layers. Recent downturns in the compound semiconductor industry and advances in the manufacture of plasma O2 and N2 sources have recently refocused many researchers on the development of single crystal oxide films that have many applications, including gate dielectrics and ferroelectrics.
