Atorvastatin is a statin used for the treatment of elevated total cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides, and to elevate HDL cholesterol(good cholesterol).  It blocks the production of cholesterols.  It is best to be taken at bedtime.  The effectiveness of atorvastatin in lowering cholesterol is dose-related, meaning that highter doses reduce cholesterol more.

Common side effects are fatigue, flatulence (gas), heartburn, and constipation.  Rhabdomyolysis can occur when you take statins in combination with certain drugs or if you take a high dose of statins.
