S&D’s new grid-tie hybrid inverter shown above (iG PCS) uses a micro-generator design topology and utilizes diverse power sources such as solar, battery & grid power.

For example, if there is sufficient solar power, then the load powered by iG PCS will be powered by solar power. Extra solar power can be sold to electric utility company by sending the extra power back into the grid (if the user uses the “sell power” mode).

If there is insufficient solar power, then the iG PCS can use battery as its backup power source (or grid power if customer chooses also depleted). During AC failure, it will operate as a UPS with solar and battery power.

All power sources are operated in parallel and linked to the DC voltage using “DC link” control algorithm. By intelligent and optimized use of solar, battery and grid power, the grid-tie iG PCS provides electric power to the load using the most environment-friendly, economical and reliable way possible



l Overview l

S&D Powernics developed a new Hybrid EV Charger and Grid peak demand reduction system
which overcomes following limitations of current
EV Chargers :

  • By direct Battery to Battery charging, demand from the power Grid is eliminated while EV batteries are being recharged at maximum power rate
  • Series-compensated, DC to DC Converter provides fast and yet safe “Battery to Battery
    Energy Transfer”.
  • Input Bi-directional Converter works normally as AC to DC Converter and recharges the batteries in the charger system during off-peak hours.

However, it can be programmed to instantly change to a Grid-tie inverter by discharging the Batteries.

    - DC to AC mode : Peak Load Reducer / Grid-tie Inverter
  • PV Converter
    MPPT charging method for optimized balance of charging speed & battery safety.
  • Series-Compensated DC/DC Converter
    The proposed converter topology is easily implemented with the conventional ZVS full bridge
    DC/DC converter because only battery connection is needed as shown in figure shown above.
    With only one additional connection, the conventional ZVS full bridge DC/DC converter with
    rated power is transformed into new high power conversion stage by battery.
  • Battery in EV is Recharged by “Battery-to-Battery Energy Transfer Circuit”
    This technology provides extremely fast EV battery recharge time
